Guitar Lessons

 Paul Winchock:

Originally I taught myself how to play guitar and played with bands in both the North and the South Jersey areas for about 5-8 years.

I finally decided it would be nice to know what I was doing with my guitar, so I started lessons

I have studied with two great Jazz teachers: The late Jazz great Harry Leahy and Jazz guitarist extraordinaire Bob Aslanian.

Harry had an all too short career in Jazz guitar playing and has accompanied such Jazz giants as Saxophonist Gerry Mulligan; playing Carnegie Hall in New York City, touring Europe and Japan and winning a Grammy award with The Phil Woods Six for best live Jazz recording on Live From the Showboat.

Mr. Leahy has also launched two of his own albums, Still Waters and Silver Threads.

Bob Alsanian has played much in the South Jersey area and has been the guitar teacher and mentor of the Seventy’s and Eighty’s Jazz-Rock Fusion guitarist Al DiMeola

Both teachers have been not only technical masters but inspirations.

Although my studies were all in Jazz, my heart lies with The Blues.

The following are some, more-or-less, recent bands/venues in which I have performed:

“Stonewater”

Playing in New Hope, Pattenburg and the greater    Trenton/Philadelphia area

“PW and the Blues Rockers”

Played Downtown Somerville Friday Cruise Night concert series for about 10 years

Played Medieval Times with Bo Diddley Jr. and others

Played as backup band for Lee Fields and toured The Carolina’s, Alabama and Indiana as The Force Field Band

Jammed with Blues player Bobby Parker and backed uo Blues Singer Beverly Crosby (once singer for “The Crystal’s”)

Open for The Smokin’ Joe Kubek band featuring  B’ Noise King (a national act Blues Band out of Dallas) and Big Jack Johnson, Mississippi Blues Player

Played Newark Airport Terminal C for Black History Month backing up female artists from Roselle, NJ “The Girlz”

I have been teaching guitar for 20+ years. I teach all levels and infuse a great deal of music theory into my lessons, hopefully, passing on the knowledge and inspiration I have been given.
